we had a bit of a hectic day yesterday.  went up to the city early to soundcheck at the darby, a ritzy club on east 11th where we were playing the fashion week party for MUSE magazine.  the club was really cool looking, and the stage was tiny.  we’ve played smaller, but not in a long while.  here’s a pic from soundcheck…

so we soundchecked there, met the people who were running the gig, then went over to the studio at webster hall to load in and soundcheck there.  that was easy as pie.  i’ve played there once before actually, last year, with my friend Scott Liss… (here’s a video of us playing national underground: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dP1rth2GREc).  but that was a rough night for me.  someone threw a brick through my car window that night and stole my entire pedal board and 2 guitars; a customized Gretsch double jet (that i’m playing in the video above…) and a 1947 Harmony archtop.  so i had some bad memories about that place.  but last night was a blast, and i think erased those memories.

here’s some photos from that show…

it was a really fun show for us.  it’s feeling better and better to play all the new songs.  every time feels better.  the crowd at webster was great too, the place was small and packed and hot and loud and it ruled.

so after we finished playing we had to immediately jet over to the darby to play for the MUSE party.  we rushed ourselves over there, got in and set up real quick, played, and partied.  the people running the show, the people working the venue and the staff and owner of the magazine itself were all extremely cool and hospitable.  we were definitely thinking before we played that we were going to be so loud and gargantuan that it would turn this rather high end crowd off, but to our pleasant surprise, they loved it. we hung out there for the afterparty till around 3, then got ourselves home.  our hearty thanks to fabio, alexis, and everyone from MUSE mag for taking such good care of us.

side note: at webster hall sam smashed his finger during the set real bad, one of the worst i’ve seen him do (and believe me, after years of touring, i’ve seen sam smash the shit out of his fingers on the drums).  but he iced it down, taped it up and played the MUSE show like a tough nut.  killed it too.

less than a month till DOGS is released.
